I am very proud to be the first ever Principal of the new Bolingbroke Academy which will build on the very successful GCSE results in the Summer and provide outstanding learning opportunities for all our students.
We now have 630 students, easily reaching our enrolment targets, especially into the sixth form where we are offering a wide range of A-level and applied qualifications. Enrolment interviews are continuing this week.
We have invested £250,000 in re-furbishing the buildings including re-modelling the dining hall into a cyber café, as well as creating large multi-media Learning Plaza, a Hairdressing Salon and a Motor Vehicle area. Halton Local Authority are upgrading the sports pitches and have provided the use of the Dance Studio at Brookvale Leisure Centre.
Dance Teacher Ms K Roper says “I am very excited to be offering Dance at all levels in purpose-built modern facilities”.
We expect the announcement of a multi-million capital investment in the buildings following the October spending review. This will provide the academy with a purpose-built sixth form and applied learning building. Our sponsors at Ormiston Trust and our local MP Graham Evans have been in contact with the Education Minister, Michael Gove to discuss the new capital project.
Our co-sponsors, the University of Chester, have guaranteed a place at University for all students who successfully complete their sixth form courses. Ormiston Trust has agreed that all sixth form students will be given their own laptop so that they can access E-learning resources throughout their time at the Academy.
A state of the art “extracom” system, and new servers, will provide fast broadband internet across the Academy.
We have two exciting specialisms of English and Applied Learning that will permeate the whole curriculum and stimulate an ethos of Active Learning in all subjects.
The Sixth Form at the Academy provides a very wide range of A-level and applied learning courses, with excellent resources and small class sizes to ensure that all students achieve their potential and can progress to University.
Year 8 and Year 9 students are currently choosing their GCSE options to start in September. As well as the traditional subjects such as Spanish, French, History Geography, Maths and English, they can choose Electronic Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Public Services, and two new diplomas in Business, Administration and Finance; and Society Health and Development.
All students will start their GCSEs a year earlier in Year 9. This will allow them to sit their exams as soon as they are ready and even start their A-levels in Year 11.
There is an open evening for all Year 6 students and their parents to look around the new Academy and meet the staff on September 23rd from 7:00 to 9 pm.
The new Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy is committed to providing high quality, personalised teaching and learning with outstanding resources in a 21st century learning environment.
