Year 7 Team

It is my pleasure as Head of Year 7 to welcome the newest members of the Academy into our OBA family.  The progression from primary to secondary school is an exciting yet challenging one, and it is of great importance to me that students and their families feel supported through this transitional time in order that they can flourish and thrive in the OBA community.  In my role I am responsible for ensuring the academic and pastoral care for each child within in the year group and do this in conjunction with a group of 8 Form Tutors and the wider Pastoral team.  Through effective liaison between staff, families and the pupils themselves, my goal is to make sure that every pupil gains the most from their time at OBA, both academically and in terms of personal development and growth.

I have very high expectations of students in Year 7, as we work to embed the routines, mindset and skills that will ensure excellence and success later in life.  I expect all students to be in school, on time, every day and to be punctual to all their lessons (attendance figure of at least 98%).  Additionally, I expect flawless behaviour to be displayed at all times, with a large emphasis on kindness and respect shown to all members of the OBA family.  A significant part of the culture at OBA is Enrichment and I expect all Year 7s to attend at least 2 enrichments each week in order to immerse themselves fully in the school community.  With the support of families and staff, I endeavour to cultivate and nurture a year group of students with high aspirations who are willing to try new experiences, bounce back from failure and never give up in any aspect of their lives.

Alongside Miss Roberts, who as KS3 Pastoral Manager works in a supportive capacity to both Years 7 & 8, we will strive to ensure your child’s experience at OBA is a rewarding and fulfilling one which provides them with the best springboard to a life of choice and opportunity.

Year 8 Team

Year 8

My role as Year Leader, with the help and support of the year 8 team, is to provide an effectual pastoral care package for each child in our year group. This means leading and managing the achievement, progress and pastoral provision for the year, as well as monitoring attendance and behaviour. We have high standards and expectations for all students in year 8 and as a team, we promote positive pupil behaviour and excellent attendance, expecting 98% attendance for all students.

It is vital that pupil progress across subject areas is monitored and intervention, where necessary, is effectively and quickly implemented. Year 8 is an exciting year for our students, with them shortly having to make choices for their GCSE’s. The year team will continue to support both students and parents/carers in making these important decisions.

In order for students to widen their horizons it is expected that they all attend at least one enrichment per week. There are some clear benefits to this – an opportunity to mix with other students in other years and a boost in confidence.

With the support of the year 8 team, we will ensure your child’s pastoral care is of the highest standard.
