ourism is one of the world’s largest and ever growing industries with more and more people travelling every year.  BTEC Firsts in Travel and Tourism can help you take your first steps towards a career in retail or business travel. You’ll learn essential skills such as business awareness, customer service and understanding destinations in the UK and worldwide.

Pupils have access to either computer suites or in classroom laptops to enable them to efficiently complete assignments. The department also has iPads to enable pupils to fully develop their learning.


BTEC Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism

Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector – this unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector.

Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations – this unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes.

Unit 3: International Travel and Tourism Destinations – which looks at international travel and tourism destinations and gateways and reasons for their appeal to different visitors.

Unit 4: Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism – covers the influential factors on tourism and why events such as natural disasters can have a significant impact on the sector.


After school enrichment revision sessions are held for externally examined units.

Additional enrichment is also held for pupils, when needed to ensure internally examined units are of the highest possible standard.


Pupils are supported with revision materials for externally examined units. Staff make available break and lunchtime sessions in the lead up to such exams. Internal Assessment (assessed in school and moderated by exam board) are supported with regular feedback on their progress throughout the course as they gather and provide evidence towards meeting the unit assessment criteria.
