The English Department is driven by dedicated and enthusiastic teaching and support staff who are committed to raising literacy standards and helping students to achieve their potential.
In order to succeed at Key Stage 3, there is a strong focus on improving students reading ages through the Accelerated Reader programme. Students are also given opportunities to develop their discussion and analytical skills through Philosophy for Children and Oracy lessons.
At Key Stage 4, pupils study for their Eduqas GCSE examinations and they have the opportunity to undertake qualifications in English Language, English Literature, English and Media.
At Key Stage 5, students have the opportunity to study both English Language and English Literature following the OCR specification.
Across all Key Stages, pupils are encouraged to work collaboratively and independently, developing skills which they can transfer to all aspects of their lives.
In 2013 the department celebrated record results with 79% of students achieving A*-C in their GCSE and a 100% pass rate at A Level.
A*-B English enrichment will now be running every Saturday during term time. There will also be enrichment sessions during the Easter and May holidays with dates to follow.
