Child Development will raise your awareness of the physical and social developments of young children. You will also be able to identify what good parenting skills look like. The subject will raise your awareness of the structures and support available to help a child develop and you will develop practical skills in caring for a baby. This subject can lead to careers in Midwifery, Social Work, Teaching, Play Therapy, Early Years Professional services, Child Psychology, Counseling, Pediatric Nurse, Nursery Assistant/Nurse, Nanny.
We have access to computer rooms and all coursework is worked on in these rooms so extensive research can be carried out and assignments typed. We are well resourced with real life babies that you can take home and practice with for a weekend. We have literacy material to guide you in course work and examinations.
You will look at the development of a child from conception to 7 years, developing knowledge and understanding of all aspects of caring for a child.
You will cover the following areas;
- Patterns of Child Development
- Promoting Children’s Development through Play
- The Principles of Early Years Practice
We have two types of enrichment available for coursework or examinations and we are very flexible and invite students to come back whenever they can to work or revise. Staff come in during school holidays when coursework deadlines and examinations are near so you are fully supported.
Staff are trained so we can all support you in your exams or course work even if you are not taught by that teacher. We work together ensure there is plenty of support available throughout the three years.
