Admission Arrangements for Students Transferring from Primary to Secondary School

In accordance with the Department for Education (DfE) School Admissions Code, Halton Local Authority (LA) has agreed a coordinated scheme for admissions to primary and secondary schools. Full details can be found at:

Open days for Sept 2020 will be announced in the summer term.

Parents can also speak to Mrs Snagg, Transition and Community Development Leader, at OBA about their child’s move from primary school to the Academy. Parents are welcome to attend our open evening, can request to look round the school during the school day, or arrange to come in and speak to Mrs Snagg to discuss any concerns or questions they may have about their child’s transition to secondary school.

Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy has the following agreed admission numbers for the year 2018-19 and, subject to any changes approved or required by the Secretary of State, for subsequent years.

180 for pupils in Years 7-11

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admission number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. After the admission of pupils with statements of Special Education Needs where the Academy is named on the statement, the criteria will be applied as follows:

  1. Admission of children in public care.
  2. Students with elder brothers or sisters including half brothers and sisters and unrelated children living together as part of the same household attending the school and expected to continue in the following year.
  3. Admission of students living nearest to the school measured using an Ordnance Survey address point system which measures straight-line distances in kilometres or metres from the address point of the school to the address point of the place of permanent residence of the pupil.

In-Year Admissions

All in-year transfer requests to Halton secondary schools are coordinated by Halton Local Authority, Rutland House, Runcorn, WA7 2GW.  Parents/carers seeking a change of school for their child should contact Halton’s In-Year School Admissions on 0151 511 7338 or email:  schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk

Right of Appeal

If you wish to appeal against a decision not to admit your child to a particular school, you should contact School Admissions on 0151 511 7271 / 7338 or email : schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk who will provide you with an appeal form.
You should then submit your appeal to: School Admissions, Rutland House, Halton Lea, Runcorn, WA7 2GW In general, the following arrangements will be made for all appeals:

At least 10 days prior to the hearing, the clerk will notify you of the time, date and location of your appeal.

Approximately 7 days before the appeal you will receive an agenda and supporting paperwork

The appeal will be heard before an independent panel who will have a copy of the appeal submitted by you

You will be notified in writing of the appeal panels decision and the grounds upon which it was made The decision of the appeal panel is binding on all parties

Sixth Form Admission Arrangements

For September 2019 the Academy has capacity for 350 students in the Sixth Form. It will not admit external applicants unless it is undersubscribed by students progressing from its own Year 11 and in such circumstances it will apply the same academic entry requirements as it does to students already on roll in the Academy.

To apply you need to complete the Academy’s Sixth Form Admissions Form and submit this directly to the Academy by 31st January 2019.

Late applications will only be considered where there are surplus places in the Academy/course(s) applied for once the oversubscription criteria has been applied.

If more applications are received than the number of places specified then the criteria applied at Year 7 will be used to determine admission.
