Academic Mentoring

Academic Mentoring

Here at OBA we are keen to ensure that all students maximise their potential to provide them with a life of opportunity and choice. Academic mentoring provides students with feedback on their progress so that they are aware of their successes and how to move further forward. The OBA mentoring strategy includes a graduated approach with tiers of support to ensure that all students are nurtured and supported within the Academy.

Year 7 – 10 Mentoring

Mentoring takes place within the tutor programme of study, teachers spend quality time with the students reviewing their most recent progress report and setting specific targets for the next term.

Year 11 Mentoring

Year 11 Academic Mentoring occurs in termly cycles in which all students are assigned mentors to review their academic performance alongside supporting student’s revision and wellbeing. Students are placed into the appropriate tier each term based on criteria including; attainment, progress, attendance and behavioural concerns. Students then meet with their mentor on a regular basis to set themselves targets for improvement. Students speak very positively about their mentors and the positive relationships they build up with their mentor throughout the mentoring process.
