A Brand New Project For Young People Launches This Weekend!

Halton Speak Out and Brookvale Community Centre are launching a brand new project for young people and they hope that some OBA students will be interested.

Youthproof Brookvale has been commissioned by Halton Borough Council to conduct a youth led audit of the local  area and to report its findings to the local decision makers to help ensure Brookvale can be a great place for young people.  Young people on the project will receive training and support to understand the issues facing the local community and to conduct an innovative, youth led piece of research into what's working and what needs to change.  We'll be covering topics from crime and anti social behaviour to mental health  to the environment.  If it's affecting young people, we want to give young people the chance to be heard on it!  The programme is supported by experienced youth workers and will receive input from  Cheshire Police and other organisations to ensure that participants will have the tools and skills they need to produce a report to make decision makers sit up and listen.

Young people will learn new skills, meet (in a Covid secure way) people  and organisations from across the community and work towards a British Youth Council Award in youth voice.   This is a great opportunity for any young person in or around the Brookvale area and with an interest in making the world a better place to get seen, heard and listened to!  This might be a great opportunity for your student council members or anyone with an interest in being heard to add to their participation and leadership skills, to gain confidence and to develop their role in the community.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who might be interested in going on to be involved in things like Halton Youth Cabinet and the UK Youth Parliament to hone their skills for election.  If they want to be heard, we can put them in front of the decision makers who need to listen.

How to get involved -

With the Covid restrictions changing we are now in a position to get a start on this great project which will run to March 2021 from Brookvale Community Centre and are looking to run our first Covid secure session at Brookvale Community Centre on Sunday 6th December, 12.30 - 2.30pm.  Young people need to register via the contact details below so that the team can provide information about their covid secure measures (which comply with National Youth Agency/PHE/HSE guidance) in advance.
