Latest Update from Mr Rawdin

Dear Parent/Carer

As we start to head towards the end of the second week of school closures and the Easter break, we wanted to salute all parents for the fantastic job you are doing. I have attached a message tile about managing expectations which says it all and let's not forget that many of our teachers are also parents, so juggling their own family life whilst keeping some learning going at OBA is difficult for them too.

Easter "holidays"

Over the Easter break, we will not be setting any specific tasks for students to complete but there are lots of general activities for them to complete, should they wish, and these can be found in their Tutor classrooms on Google Classroom. As well as these optional tasks, the OBA "Family Five" Easter activities which are designed for family interaction can be found at https://tinyurl.com/qu6gbbq This is under the 'Latest News' section on our school website.

Please feel free to complete whichever ones take your fancy or challenge yourselves to get out of your comfort zone! Most of all, though, just have some fun!

The 'Family Five' Easter Projects are:

  1. Fitness challenge

  1. Photography

  1. Spanish

  1. Family History

  1. Easter Fun

 Other Fun Activities are:

  1. A Week of Science Experiments.

  1. A Week of English Fun.

  1. Reading Activities – please see attached resource 'Keeping Our Children Reading'. We highly recommend these reading activities created by our Reading Champion (Miss Rayner) – your children can use them to develop their reading skills in an ongoing manner.

Once completed, we would love for you to share the project/activity outcomes with us via uploading it into the Tutor Classrooms in Google Classroom.

We look forward to you sharing your amazing creative responses with us.

Post-Easter timetable

After the Easter break, we will begin to operate a specific remote learning timetable rather than trying to maintain the full 25 period per week cycle. Whilst there will be fewer lessons, thereby making it easier to manage, and fewer "set" tasks, teachers will be offering extension or immersion activities wherever appropriate so that students can continue to challenge themselves as much as possible. Details will be shared in Friday's message to parents and we will also issue a reminder after the break.

Free School Meals

A national e-voucher scheme that is being fully funded by the DfE has now been announced. We are still waiting for specific details so that we can support the implementation of this and have received assurances that this is imminent. However, just in case this does not become established quickly enough, we now have our own back-up plan which is to replicate our own process from last week.

Finally, in the middle of the Easter break, I am delighted to announce that Mrs Evans will be taking up her post as Principal. Although I am sad that my own association with the academy will now come to an end at that point, I have been proud to serve the OBA community and know that the long-term future of the academy is looking increasingly positive despite this current crisis. I will be in touch again shortly to say my goodbyes and would like to thank you all, once again, for your continued support.

Look after yourselves.

Yours Faithfully
