Project Creamfields at OBA

Year Nine students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy demonstrated their outstanding entrepreneurial skills recently during a Media Project day which excited and enthused the whole of the year group. Working with Andy Daniels, top DJ for Creamfields and Hed Kandi, the students created a range of different advertising campaigns for the 2014 Creamfields Music Festival.

After an amazing DJ performance, Andy gave the students a real insight into what takes place behind the scenes to ensure the successful running of the festival and students learnt all about the local community issues that have to be considered when planning a festival as popular as Creamfields.

Throughout the day, students were wowed by the expertise of Andy Daniels as well as the other professionals who were present to advise them and develop both their technical and marketing skills. Software Designer for the BBC, Marc Littlemore, supported the students as they designed apps for smartphones and tablets, created and edited promotional videos, musical jingles, logos, tickets flyers and advertising leaflets. Matt Southern, Video Game Designer for Sony/Evolution also supported and enthused both students and staff, along with Donna Plumbley from O2 and Norma Grice from Mploy. The Year Nine students, as well as Sixth Formers, were also able to interview the guests about career opportunities and routes into the various industries that they represented.

Mr Mark Wyss, Vice Principal, who co-ordinated Project Creamfields said “Our students enjoyed a wonderful day of creativity and productivity and I was thrilled with the determination and enthusiasm that they all displayed throughout the event. I’m glad I wasn’t on the judging panel, though, as the standard of what our students produced was awesome. They were really inspired and motivated by the skills of our guests from Creamfields and the BBC and I’m sure that they now also have a real understanding of how to pursue career ambitions in various areas of the media industry. This project will hopefully lead to sustainable partnerships and work-related opportunities with the companies involved and we look forward to working with them again very soon.”
