Students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy continued to demonstrate their rowing prowess recently when they took part in the North of England Sprint Championship at Hollingworth Lake. Female rowers from Years 9 and 10, Leah Bentley, Ebony Gumbs, Kaitlin Falconer, Emily Burkey and Alex Gooding took part in a coxed quad race and demonstrated amazing technique and speed. The girls then also participated in the doubles race and were outstanding on what was a very turbulent lake due to the wind and rain.
Male rower, Kyle Bray, put on an amazing performance in the doubles with a fellow sportsman from Runcorn Rowing Club, winning their first heat and reaching the final.
It was a long and successful day and the students’ parents set up camp by the lake cheering the rowers on whilst enjoying picnics and warm drinks.
“These students really do give this sport everything that they have got,” said Miss McAuliffe, PE teacher. “They have come so far in such a short amount of time and their talent is simply admirable. They always demonstrate 100% effort and deserve every bit of success they achieve. Watch this space for further stories of OBA’s success in rowing.”
