The Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy 6th form team played in the Cheshire Cup final last night and unfortunately were defeated. The whole school is very proud of their achievement regardless and we are all looking forward to greater success in the future. Here is a small write-up of the match from Head of PE (and team coach) Mr Townson:
The lads lost 3-1. The game was a lot closer than the score suggests, 0-0 at half time and we took the lead on 70 mins with Alex Howard cutting in from the left and burying a low drive into the corner. With a few injuries and tired legs to the team, Sandbach hit us on the break and scored with 10 mins left of normal time.
Extra time saw us simply run out steam, making 5 subs we tried to hold on but Sandbach’s stronger squad showed in the end, as they scored 2 in the 1st period of extra-time, their 3rd goal was an excellent individual effort in similar fashion to Alex Howards goal.
They gave absolutely everything, they were a CREDIT to our school. So too were our fans who came along to support them. Big thanks to the staff who came along to support, and also to the staff who got in touch with me last night.
Mr Townson also informed everyone that this was the first time our school have ever reached the final of a regional cup which is another reason to be proud of their achievement.
