Victory for the Year 9 Lawyers!
Thirteen Year 9 pupils took part in the Magistrates’ Mock Trial Competition on Saturday 3rd March at Mold Law Courts in North Wales. They endured 2 rounds in the local heats against three other North West schools coming out on top!
In preparation for the competition they prepared a prosecution case against a fictitious defendant aka Macauley Stoba (9KIR) playing the character of George Low, a youth charged with handling stolen goods! He was represented by the defence lawyers – Jonny Shaw (9BEB) and Joe Watts (9PC) supported by their witness Callum Thomas (9KIR). The prosecution lawyers Sam Kendrick (9GD) and Joe Bellis (9BEB) with the support of the prosecution witnesses including Eric Rotheram (9KIR) and Alex Smith (9SS) brought a strong case against him! The Magistrates hearing the case included Chair Matt Horton (9GD), Zoe Longworth (9GD) and Matthew Watson (9BEB). Lewis Roberts (9SS) as legal adviser made sure they were guided on the correct points of law! Court procedure was rigorously followed, made sure by Court Usher Christopher Warner (9GD)!
The team’s hard work paid off and they steamed ahead into the regional heats due to take place in Manchester on 12th May! If they are successful they will win a place in the National Final in June.
On to the regionals…watch this space!!
