On 27th May 2011, 25 pupils visited the Paralympic World Cup held at the Manchester Arena. The Paralympic World Cup is the last major Paralympic event for athletes before the 2012 Paralympics held in London. Whilst on the trip pupils had the opportunity to experience a variety of Paralympic athletics events including track and field and a range of athletes with disabilities. One of the athletes who pupils watched compete is world class paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius also known as “The Blade Runner”. Pistorius is a double leg amputee who currently holds the 100m, 200m and 400m sprint Paralympic world records. Pupils had the opportunity to watch Pistorius race in both 100m and 200m events in which he is currently trying to meet the 2012 Olympic qualifing times to compete alongside able bodied athletes. Pupils enjoyed watching all of the events and cheering on athletes throughout the games which were broadcast live on Channel 4. Pupils were also lucky enough to meet and get their picture taken with the 2012 Olympic mascots.
Well done to all pupils for their excellent behaviour throughout the trip.
